All The Books I Can Read

1 girl….2 many books!

Top 10 Tuesday May 17

on May 17, 2022

Hello everyone and welcome back to another Top 10 Tuesday, hosted by Jana @ That Artsy Reader Girl. This is a topic that is basically for made for me because my TBR pile is hundreds of books, I constantly buy books I am excited about but haven’t read yet. So these are just 10 of them!

The Poppy War by R.F. Kuang

I bought this about 18 months ago and I have heard so many good things about this one and the rest of the trilogy. Just have yet to pick it up!

Obsidio by Amie Kaufman & Jay Kristoff

I bought this when it first came out, which I think was March 2018 – that’s what Goodreads says anyway. So that’s four years ago now! I have read the first two and honestly, I do not know why I haven’t read this. It’s been so long now that I probably need to read the first two again.

All The Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr

I can’t remember when I bought this, but I know where I bought it – a cute second hand bookstore near the beach in my hometown. I either bought it when I was there in Christmas 2015 or Christmas 2019, because my husband and I visited both times and bought a stack of books each time but I can’t remember which ones I bought when! I have heard SO many good things about this. And I think I actually ended up putting it on my 22 in 2022 pile this year (but we won’t talk about that, I have fallen off the wagon there pretty badly!)

A Song Of Wraiths And Ruin by Roseanne A. Brown

This one isn’t too bad as I bought it in February of 2021! Pretty sure the sequel is out already which is a bonus I guess because when I finally read this, if I love it then I can just roll straight on to the next one and not have to wait.

Bone Ash Sky by Katerina Cosgrove

I bought this when it came out in 2013 so that is almost 10 years ago. Yikes. It’s a novel about an American journalist who goes back to the place of her origins and unravels things about the Armenian genocide. I have actually tried to read this once or twice and never got very far – not sure if I was in the right frame of mind for it or if it has a beginning you need to push through a bit. I really need to give it another go and see if it works or if I need to maybe pass it on.

The Distant Hours by Kate Morton

I bought this in the same shop that I got All The Light We Cannot See and it’s a beautiful hardback, which you don’t often see here. It’s fricking huge though and I have all these chunky books (some more of which I’ll also include in this post) that I buy thinking oh yeah, this is going to be great, what a huge book to sink into and then I look at it and look at the 3 books I could read in the same amount of time and end up reading those instead haha.

The Luminaries by Eleanor Catton

Lol. I don’t know why I was so excited about this? But I bought it when it came out – also in 2013, so also nearly 10 years ago. I’ve read the first page like 2-3x and basically became the confused emoji and put it away but I’m at the same time kind of determined to try and finish it? But it’s also super huge and…..very intimidating.

The Girl Who Kicked The Hornet’s Nest by Stieg Larsson

Okay. I’ve found the one that’s been on my shelf the longest, I think! I bought this in….I want to say around 2009? The three books were already out and I think I bought the first one, read it and loved it and then bought 2&3 together. I have read 2 and loved that as well but….I don’t know, I’m quite bad at finishing things. It’s a finality I’m not ready for….as the author died. I keep filing it under ‘one day’.

A Gathering Of Shadows by V.E. Schwab

I had heard amazing things about V.E. Schwab in the weeks and months leading up to me buying the first 2 books in this series (this is #2). I can’t remember exactly when I bought them but I read the first one in April 2017 so it would’ve been in the month or 2 before that, because I think I read it fairly soon. However I liked it – but I didn’t love it….and this one has been languishing on my TBR pile ever since.

A Little Life by Hanya Yanagihara

Well. Is it even a Top 10 Tuesday if I do not include this book in some fashion? I bought this when it came out. And I still so want to read it – probably more than any other title on this list. But it’s also huge and everyone keeps saying that it destroyed their soul and I need to wait until I’m ready to be emotionally victimised by this book.

A snapshot of 10 of the books on my TBR list that I was super excited for – and still haven’t read yet! Do you have any of the same ones sitting on yours? Or are you actually more organised than me and have read them already? Let me know.

  1. Oh The Poppy War and A Little Life are still on my TBR too! And I loved The Luminaries, but think about half of it went over my head a little!
    My post is here.

    • Glad to see I’m not the only one that hasn’t read A Little Life yet! Yeah I feel like when I do finally get around to The Luminaries, half of it will probably go over my head too

Great list. This week’s prompt was also too easy for me to do! I’m currently reading Obsidio, which I had on my TBR for month. A Song Of Wraiths And Ruin and Poppy War are also on my TBR, but I don’t own the books yet since they’re both on Scribd. The Shades of Magic trilogy is definitely a must-read 😉

    Have a great week

    • Im going to have to give the Shades of Magic another go! You’ll have to let me know how Obsidio is….I feel like I’ve forgotten so much that happened in the first two books now.

I have a habit of buying books then not having the time to read them. I am also a slow reader and get sucked in to Blog Tours!

    Have a great week!

Top Ten Tuesday – Books I Was SO EXCITED to Get, but Still Haven’t Read

  4. I loved ALL despite how much it broke me and yes, all the CW/TW! 😅 ASoWaR is also on my TBR and I’ve been excited about it since it came out… I hope you enjoy these books whenever you get to them!

    • Thank you! Also thanks for warning me even more about A Little Life haha. I am just really hoping I am in the frame of mind that lets me tackle it one day…..because I really do want to read it so badly. Hopefully we both love ASoWaR when we finally pick it up!

I read and enjoyed The Poppy War. So much that I wanted to read the rest of the series but haven’t yet. I need to get to those.

There are some other interesting choices here too. This week’s list reminds me that I need to work on my TBR pile a bit. 🙂

    • The Poppy War is very well received, I do need to make the effort to finally get to it (and some of these others!). My TBR is a constant juggle, I am always adding at a much faster rate than I can read

  6. Cindy Davis says:

I also have a habit of buying books and then not getting around to them. I hope you enjoy these when you do get a chance to read them.

    • Yeah it’s a habit of mine, buying more books than I have time to read – I like the saying that collecting books and reading books are two different hobbies. I do both but I’ve learned to let go of feeling bad about my huge TBR pile – one day I probably won’t be able to buy as many books and I’ll be grateful I have accumulated a little stockpile!

I have a copy of The Luminaries and it does look intimidating with how big it is.

Schwab is excellent!! I loved Obsidio, Song of Wraith and Ruin, and The Poppy War!!

    My Top Ten!

  9. Carrie says:

Kate Morton’s books are fabulous but i haven’t read that one by her yet either 🙂 My TTT

  10. Amber G says:

I’ve been meaning to read A Song of Wraiths and Ruin since before it came out and I still haven’t! Obsidio was a good ending to the series. Honestly, I didn’t love the way TPW series wrapped up but the first two books were incredible.

    • Glad to hear you loved Obsidio! I think part of my not having read it yet is I am wary of being disappointed by a final book! So it’s good to see a lot of people say that it wasn’t. I really don’t like unsatisfying endings lol.

  11. The Poppy War, Obsidio, and a Gathering of Shadows are some of my favorites!

    Check out my TTT

  12. Its super hard to finish series when you like them but didn’t love them! I did love A Darker Shade of Magic, but I’ve had so many series that I thought I would finish later but never got around to doing it

    • I’m also just really bad with finishing series in general, even ones I love haha. It’s the letting go as well, I really enjoy a good series and saying goodbye to characters sometimes is REALLY hard!

  13. Ahh “A Little Life” could have been on my list too. XD I really hope you’ll enjoy “Obsidio” and “A Gathering of Magic” as much as I did when I read them. =)

  14. I really enjoyed both A Song of Wraiths and Ruin and A Gathering of Shadows, so I hope you do too.

My tbr is huge too! I’d like to read some V.E. Schwab at some point!
Here is our Top Ten Tuesday. Thank you!
