Well it’s been a while but I’m back with another Top 10 Tuesday, hosted by the girls over at The Broke & the Bookish. This week we’re talking….

Top 10 Books On My Summer Winter Reading List

  1. Hard Choices, by Hilary Rodham Clinton. I’m not American (obviously, as it’s winter here) but I admire Hilary Rodham Clinton. I think she’s a very intelligent and very classy lady. I’m really interested to see what she has to say about her time as Secretary of State. I’m excited to read this.
  2. Rusty Nailed, by Alice Clayton. I really loved Wallbanger and I can’t wait to see what is next for Simon & Caroline.
  3. The Girl In 6E, by Alessandre Torre. I got this off NetGalley from the Australian publisher a little while back and I’ve just been waiting until it’s closer to the release date to read it. It sounds so good and I have to admit, I’m a sucker for those stories where people never leave their houses/apartments. I don’t know why. Maybe because on some level, I could see myself being one of those people, just reading books and communicating solely online….
  4. Silver Shadows, by Richelle Mead. Number 5 in the Bloodlines series and after the way The Fiery Heart ended, who doesn’t want this next volume?
  5. Isla And The Happily Ever After, by Stephanie Perkins. I feel as though this book has been absolutely years in coming…but given how much I love the writing of Stephanie Perkins, I’m sure it’ll be well worth it!
  6. A Dance With Dragons, by George R.R. Martin. I’m kind of cheating here with this one as I’m actually halfway through it already. I ripped through the first four books but I’m taking this one much slower because I don’t know when the next one is going to be out! It’ll probably be so long that I’ll have forgotten most of what happened anyway.
  7. #scandal, by Sarah Ockler. I’m really interested in books that deal with social media at the moment, and how things can go wrong and how there can be very little in the way of privacy these days. This one caught my eye recently and the writer has a lot of fans.
  8. Landline, by Rainbow Rowell. It’s Rainbow Rowell, what more else is there to say? I’ve read all of her previous books and loved the heck out of every one of them. I’m sure this one will be no different.
  9. The Marriage Game, by Elizabeth Weir. I love a bit of historical fiction and this one tackles Elizabeth I. I have read plenty of books about former Kings and Queens but I’ve not read much at all on Elizabeth I.
  10. What Came Before, by Anna George. I received this from the publisher (Penguin AU) and it’s about a man who just murdered his wife. He’s recording his confession in a car as his wife’s….spirit?… something, hovers over her dead body. The novel then goes back to show their past and how they came to end up at that horrifying point in time.

This list was surprisingly hard to construct….normally I have dozens of books I’m excited for in any given season but I’ve had a little break recently and I was shocked to find out how out of the loop I was! I had to hunt down books that are being released soon and it took me far longer than it normally would. However, I’m pretty confident of reading most of the books on this list – quite often in the past I’ve done a TBR for summer/spring/autumn/winter etc and then I go back months later and notice I didn’t read a single book listed on it! Hopefully when spring rolls around I can come and revisit this one and see that most of them have been crossed off the list. Some are still a bit up in the air (such as Isla, I’m no longer sure who has the rights here anymore).

  1. I can not wait for Silver Shadows either – especially after how The Fiery Heart ended! The Marriage Game sounds interesting. I do like Tudor type books being a pretty big fan of Philippa Gregory books. Hope you enjoy your winter reading list, Bree!

  2. Great list! I didn’t include it in my list this week but I’m looking forward to Landline as well 🙂 Hope you’re enjoying A Dance With Dragons 😉

    Happy reading! My TTT

    • I’m loving A Dance With Dragons….all of the SoIaF books have been so engaging and readable! I’m going to be very disappointed when I finish this one and have to wait!

I had not heard of Isla and the Happily Ever After, but it seems to be on everyone’s list so I’ll have to check it out. Great list. Here’s mine.

    • If you check it out then I recommend you read Stephanie Perkins’s two other books if you haven’t already – it will make it so much better! They’re all sort of companion novels but there are some characters that recur throughout.

  7. Lucy says:

Great list- yay for Isla, Silver Shadows and #scandal. I enjoyed Landline a lot and if you’ve enjoyed RR’s other books I suspect you will too. The Girl in 6E sounds very intriguing! Happy winter reading 🙂

  8. Ooh, great list 🙂 I definitely want to read a lot of these too!

  9. love the mix of genres on your list, I really want to read Hilary Clinton’s book as well. She’s such an interesting woman.

  10. I’ve been wanting to read #scandal as well. A great, diverse list! Hope you enjoy reading them 🙂

  11. I’ve been hearing Isla and the Happily Ever After on so many people’s list. I definitely want to check it out.

I can’t believe I forgot Isla on mine. I think because it’s been so long coming it doesn’t feel like it’s ever coming lol. I hope it lives up to all the anticipation. I’ve heard Landline is the best Rainbow Rowell yet – although I haven’t read any of her books myself, probably should have listed them too. Hopefully I get to them soon.

    • I know, it has been -FOREVVVER-. So glad it’s finally coming though but yes, it could easily fall flat after all that hype and delay! You should start at the beginning with Rowell… I absolutely love Attachments. Eleanor & Park and Fangirl are incredible too. But the humour in Attachments really makes it my fave.

  13. […] always like to go back and look at my previous season’s Top 10 and see how I did. From my winter list, I read 5/10 of the books on my list which for me, is pretty […]
