All The Books I Can Read

1 girl….2 many books!

Top 10 Tuesday Tuesday 6th March

on March 6, 2012

It’s Tuesday again! And that means it’s time for Top 10 Tuesday, hosted by the girls at The Broke & the Bookish. This week the topic is:

Top 10 Favourite Covers

I picked 5 YA covers and 5 adult covers released in the last couple years. To be honest, I haven’t read them all and some of the ones I have read, I haven’t liked all that much. For some reason pretty covers seem to sometimes accompany books that I don’t enjoy! I can still appreciate a good cover though, no matter what.

Across The Universe, by Beth Revis. This is an awesome cover – it’s beautiful, it’s clever and it makes you want to read it. I love the colours.

Cinder, by Marissa Meyer. The cover is what convinced me to read this one, even when the story line didn’t grab me at first. I’m so glad I did because the book is great, just as great as the cover. The whole Cinderella-style shoe with just a hint of what lies underneath – very clever.

Hush, Hush, by Becca Fitzpatrick. I haven’t read this book. I won’t actually ever read this book. But that cover is spectacular.

The Replacement, by Brenna Yovanoff. I haven’t read this one but I really want to, based purely on the cover. I actually have no idea what the book is about at all. The cover is so eerie and atmospheric. Makes me want to curl up on a winters night under a blanket on the couch and get stuck into it.

The Girl In The Steel Corset, by Kady Cross. I read an ARC of this which had just a white cover with the title/author/etc on it. The book was so-so for me but the official cover is amazing. That is one heck of a dress and all the steampunkish stuff in the background draws the eye (when it’s done taking in that dress!).

Onto adult…

The Night Circus, by Erin Morgenstern. Love, love, love this cover! I’ve been dying to read this book for months and now I finally have it! Argh so many things to read but looking at this cover again has made me realise I must read it like NOW.

The Peach Keeper, by Sarah Addison Allen. This is her most recent release and was the first of her books I read and I loved it. It made me happy and this cover makes me happy. I think it’s pretty and I just like looking at it.

Left Neglected, by Lisa Genova. Left neglect does exist – it’s a condition that occurs where the brain cannot recognise one side of space, generally after a traumatic brain injury to one hemisphere. I think this cover is clever and really does a good job at helping someone understand what it is and what the book will be about. I think it would be so weird to not perceive or recognise anything on your left side at all.

The Gargoyle, by Andrew Davidson. I loved this book – I thought it was just so compelling and there was something so strangely addictive about the unnamed narrator. I think this cover might be misleading to someone who hasn’t read it or isn’t aware of what it’s about, but when you have, it’s perfect.

Caribou Island, by David Vann. Love, love this cover. This book is set in Alaska and it’s really moody and atmospheric and quite ominous and the weather plays a large part in it and in what happens in the end. I think this picture perfectly sums up the brewing storm that builds in the novel, both weather-wise and emotionally.

To be honest I could do this topic every week and find 10 different books each time. But these are the ones that came to mind today.

Nice choices! We have a lot of the same favourites — The Gargoyle is one of my all-time favourite covers. Here’s my list: http://writergrrlreads.blogspot.com/2012/03/top-ten-beautiful-book-covers.html

  3. great picks! The cover for Across the Universe reminds me of the one for Glow.
I really like The Gargoyle one as well

  4. Great picks! I absolutely LOVE the Across the Universe cover (it was the reason I picked it up in the first place), it’s even a background on my computer now. I’ve never seen The Replacement, but that is quite startling and definitely makes me want to read it.

I almost added Hush, Hush to my list. I love that cover but I’m not a big fan of the series. The Replacement’s cover is spectacular. I love it as well. Great list!

  10. I’ve seen Across the Universe on a lot of lists today, understandably. It’s gorgeous! But I also love the cover of Cinder. That red shoe is so striking, even though no one in the book wears red shoes (right?). And The Night Circus is SUCH a great cover!! Love it!

  11. GREAT list!! Love the Girl in the Steel Corset and Cinder.. and Night Circus!! Fantastic choices! 🙂
